Zofriends Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Zomage LLC (“Zomage,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information through the Zofriends mobile application (the “App”). It applies to users in the United States and Canada, where Zofriends currently operates.
By creating an account, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Who can use Zofriends
Zofriends is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We verify this using the birth date you provide during signup, and it cannot be changed afterward except through our support process. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Information we collect
Account and identity information
- Your phone number, used to verify your identity and required to sign up. It is stored securely through our authentication provider and is not stored in plain text in our general database.
- Your email address, if you sign up or link an account that way.
- Your display name, which is visible to people you match with.
- Your profile photo(s). Photos you upload are kept private until both you and someone you are talking with choose to reveal them to each other.
Sensitive Personal Information (SPI) / Special Category Data
Some of what Zofriends asks for is treated by law as sensitive personal information, and we want to be direct about it rather than bury it in a long list:
- Your date of birth, used to confirm you are 18 or older and, optionally, to personalize astrology-based features. Your birth time and city are optional and used the same way.
- Who you are interested in meeting, and how you describe your own gender identity, including whether you identify as transgender. You control whether this last detail is ever shown to other users; by default, it is used only to help us match you well and is not displayed.
- Your approximate location (accurate to roughly 100 meters, not exact GPS), used to find people near you. We never show your precise address or plot you on a map for other users.
We ask for this information because Zofriends is built around genuine compatibility, not surface-level swiping, and these signals are part of how our matching works. You are in control of what you share during signup.
Conversations and AI processing
Zofriends includes an AI companion (“Zo”) that talks with you to understand your interests and personality, and that can participate in group conversations it helps set up. Here is what that means in practice:
- Messages you send, whether to Zo or to other users, are processed by our chat infrastructure provider and, where Zo is involved, by our AI processing providers, in order to generate responses and understand context.
- We use these conversations to build a private profile of your interests and communication style, which improves who we match you with. This profile is not shown to other users in raw form.
- Every conversation, including ones Zo is no longer actively part of, is automatically scanned for safety issues (like harassment or exploitation). In addition to automated scanning, authorized human personnel may read your prompts and review portions of your conversations to investigate reported safety violations, enforce our rules, and manually analyze interactions to improve our app, AI models, and overall service. We want you to know this happens rather than assume a conversation is entirely unmonitored.
Purchases
If you buy a Day Pass (a one-time, one-day upgrade), your purchase is processed entirely through Apple’s or Google’s in-app purchase systems. We receive confirmation that a purchase happened and its details, but we never see or store your payment card information.
Inviting friends
If you invite someone to join Zofriends, you can optionally give us their name and email address so you can keep track of who you’ve invited. Here is exactly what happens to that information: the email address is converted into a one-way cryptographic scramble immediately and is only ever used to detect if you are inviting the same person twice. We never store it in plain text, and it cannot be reversed back into an email address. The name you enter is visible only to you, in your own list of people you’ve invited, and is never shown to the person you invited or to anyone else.
Advertising
Zofriends shows a small number of ads. We may use a general interest signal (never your sensitive information described above) to show more relevant ads through Google Ad Manager. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, and doing so does not affect how many ads you see, only how they are chosen.
Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK users)
Zofriends is offered in the United States and Canada. If you access Zofriends from the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, for example while traveling, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Contractual necessity: to host your account, enable messaging, and provide core app services.
- Explicit consent (GDPR Article 9): to process special category data, such as the birth date, birth time, and birth city used for astrology-based features and the orientation and gender-identity preferences described above, for AI matchmaking. You may withdraw explicit consent at any time in your App settings.
- Legitimate interests: to prevent fraud, maintain platform safety, and monitor system health.
Who we share information with
We work with a small number of trusted service providers to run Zofriends. Each of them is bound by strict confidentiality and data security agreements, and they are legally prohibited from using your personal information for their own independent marketing.
| Category of Service Provider | What they receive | Why we share it |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Infrastructure & Hosting | Account data, message metadata, photos, and general app data | To securely host the App and keep the platform running. |
| Communication Infrastructure | Message content, display names, and account identifiers | To power real-time chat and messaging features. |
| AI Processing Partners | Conversation content | To route and process AI interactions, including understanding user compatibility. |
| Analytics Providers | Anonymized usage statistics and temporarily retained AI logs | To measure app performance and improve the quality of AI conversations. |
| Payment Processors | Purchase and receipt information | To securely process Day Pass purchases via your device’s app store. |
| Advertising Partners | General interest signals (unless you opt out) | To deliver more relevant advertisements. |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own advertising purposes outside of the ad-targeting signal described above.
How long we keep your information
- Your profile and account data: for as long as your account is active.
- Raw conversation logs used for AI processing: 180 days, after which they are automatically and permanently deleted.
- Anonymized, aggregate usage statistics that cannot identify you: kept indefinitely.
- If you delete your account, nearly everything is deleted immediately and permanently, with one exception described in the next section.
What happens when you delete your account
Deleting your account is permanent and immediate. We do not hold your data in limbo “just in case,” and we do not offer a recovery window.
When you delete your account, we remove your profile, photos, messages, matches, and conversation history from our systems right away.
The one exception, and why it exists: we keep a one-way cryptographic scramble (not your actual phone number or email, and not reversible) of the phone number and email tied to a deleted account. This exists purely to stop someone who was removed for violating our rules from immediately signing up again under a new profile. We never use it for marketing or to identify you, and it cannot be read backward to recover your phone number or email. For a normal account deletion with no violations, this record is only checked for 12 months. For an account that was banned for violating our rules, it is kept indefinitely, because the purpose (preventing that specific person from returning) does not expire the way an ordinary account deletion does.
International data transfers
Zomage LLC is located in the United States. If you access the App from the EEA, UK, or other non-US regions, your personal data will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. We rely on legally recognized transfer mechanisms, including European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), to safeguard your data during cross-border transfers.
Automated decision-making and AI
Zo uses automated decision-making technology (ADMT), including machine learning algorithms, to evaluate profile attributes, process conversation sentiment, and generate matchmaking scores. We do not use this technology for discriminatory purposes.
- Logic and access: You have the right to request information about how automated decisions are made for your profile.
- Opt-out: In certain jurisdictions, you have the right to opt out of this kind of automated profiling. Because AI-guided matching is the core service of Zofriends, opting out of ADMT will disable core matching capabilities.
- Human review: If an automated safety filter or algorithm results in an account suspension, you have the right to request a manual human review by contacting support@zomage.org.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time, in Settings. This is immediate and permanent, as described above.
- Turn off ad personalization at any time, in Settings.
- Control whether your gender identity details are shown to others, in your profile settings. By default, this information is used for matching only and is not displayed.
- Access, download, correct, delete, or limit the use of your information at any time by going to Settings > Privacy > Privacy Requests in the App, or by emailing support@zomage.org.
California residents
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA:
- The right to know what personal information we have collected about you, and to request a copy of it.
- The right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal and safety exceptions (such as the ban-record exception described above).
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- The right to limit our use of your sensitive personal information, such as the identity and location signals described above, to what is necessary to provide the App.
- The right to opt out of the “sharing” of your information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we use advertising partners as described above, this may be considered “sharing” under California law. You can opt out in the App’s ad personalization setting. We also automatically detect and honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Opt-Out Preference Signals transmitted by your browser or device as a valid request to opt out.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To exercise any of them, contact us at support@zomage.org.
Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
Zofriends is restricted to users 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your information, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
